ESCEO-IOF Pierre Meunier Young Scientist Medal

The ESCEO-IOF Pierre Meunier Young Scientist Medal was awarded for the first time in 2017, and is presented to a young investigator who has demonstrated outstanding scientific merit early in his or her career, prior to reaching a prominent academic position, and who is expected to be a future thought-leader in the musculoskeletal field.

The 2017 medal was awarded to Dr Kassim Javaid during the World Congress on Osteoporosis, Osteoarthritis and Musculoskeletal Diseases in Florence, Italy in March 2017. 

Dr M. Kassim Javaid completed medical training at Charing Cross and Westminster Medical School, and then specialized in adult rheumatology at the Wessex Deanery. He completed a PhD examining the maternal determinants of intra-uterine bone growth as part of an ARC Clinical Fellowship at the University of Southampton. He was awarded an ARC travelling fellowship and worked with the Osteoarthritis (OA) Group at University of California, San Francisco to study the role of vitamin D and bone in lower limb OA. Dr Javaid is currently Honorary Consultant Rheumatologist and Associate Professor in Metabolic Bone Disease at the University of Oxford. His research interests include the role of epidemiology of musculoskeletal diseases focusing on secondary fracture prevention and rare bone diseases.
